In its brief existence, the internationally acclaimed Twisted Steel Quartet is quickly becoming recognized as one of the finest ensembles of its kind. Winner of the 2000 International Tuba Euphonium Conference International Quartet Competition, Twisted Steel has presented numerous performances throughout North America and Europe including the 2001 International Tuba Euphonium Conference and the 2001 Lieksa (Finland) Brass Week. The quartet is dedicated to promoting brass chamber music at a high level through recordings, commissioning new works and versatile performances. Members have won honors and awards at major international, national and regional solo competitions including the Falcone Solo Euphonium Artist Division, International Tuba Euphonium Conference Solo Tuba and Solo Euphonium, International Women’s Brass Conference Solo Euphonium Division II and Division III, Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist National Solo Brass, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors National Solo Brass, Southeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference (SERTEC) Solo Euphonium and Solo Tuba, Great Plains Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference (GPRTEC) Solo Competition, and the Texas Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference Solo Euphonium. Members have also appeared as guest artists and clinicians at major conferences including the 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002 International Tuba Euphonium Conferences; 1996, 1997, 1999 SERTEC; and the 2003 GPRTEC. The Quartet’s website, www.twistedsteel.net, is home to the most extensive collection of tuba quartet information on the internet, the Quartet Resource Center (QRC). The QRC includes lists of music and publishers, recordings including tack listings, ensembles and their members as well as any reviews submitted. |
